Blasphemy Laws in Pakistan

Pakistan is a living hell for religious minorities as well as Modern Muslims. With each passing day, radical Muslims seem to be spiraling out of control, willing to resort to violence against anyone accused of committing blasphemy against Muhammad’s Quran or Islam.

On Sunday, the 25th of Feb,2024, a Muslim Couple went shopping in Ichra Market in Lahore, Pakistan. Despite their modern attire, particularly the woman wearing a top with Arabic calligraphy, allegations of blasphemy against the Quran arose from people in the market. Most of those people belong to the hostile radical Islamic Political Party Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan TLP; This is the same party that was involved in the burning of over 100 churches in Jaranwala, Punjab, Pakistan.

Within moments, hundreds of people gathered outside the shop, demanding the woman to come out. The volatile mob, fueled by rage, sought to lynch her for allegedly insulting Islam and the Quran. Fortunately, the husband called the police, and they arrived promptly. However, the mob persisted in demanding the woman be handed over to them.

Senior Police Officer ASP Gulberg Syeda Shehrbano arrived on the scene and, after hours of effort, successfully rescued the woman from the area, bringing her to the police station. Dozens of Islamic clerics also arrived, insisting that the police register a First Information Report (FIR) against her.

ASP Shehrbano thoroughly investigated the matter and discovered that the dress in question was from the Arabian brand Shalik Riyadh, having no connection to Islam or the Quran. After extensive discussions with Muslim clerics, she managed to convince them that the attire was unrelated to Islam.

Subsequently, a video message was released by ASP Shehrbano and the woman, with the presence of Muslim clerics, affirming that the dress did not bear Quranic or Islamic wording. The affected woman also shared her fear of being coerced by Muslim clerics into seeking forgiveness for wearing Arabic calligraphy.

This incident illustrates how innocent people in Pakistan are targeted in the name of Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran. The hostility has reached uncontrollable levels. In 2013, the Pakistani Army created the TLP as a wing to counter political parties using the guise of Islam. Today, this group has grown beyond control in Pakistan.
