Tens of thousands of Armenian Christians are currently facing a dire situation in the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Artsakh. This distressing circumstance arises from a relentless military blockade that has severed their connection with the outside world.

Nagorno-Karabakh, primarily populated by Armenian Christians, is situated within the borders of the Muslim-majority country of Azerbaijan. The situation has worsened since December 2022 when Azerbaijan imposed a stringent blockade on the Lachin Corridor, the crucial pathway that links these Armenian Christians to the rest of the world.

Disturbing reports from the Philos Project reveal that the consequences of this blockade have been catastrophic. The availability of basic necessities such as food and medicine has been drastically reduced, plunging the affected population into an alarming crisis. The scarcity of essential supplies has led to dire living conditions and health risks among the Armenian Christian community.

Tragically, the suffering doesn’t end there. Pregnant women within this besieged community are facing a dire increase in miscarriages, with the number tripling since the onset of the blockade. This distressing trend underscores the urgent need for medical assistance and intervention.

Furthermore, reports have emerged regarding the harsh treatment by Azeri forces. Even during emergency medical evacuations, the vulnerable are not spared from the cruelty of this ordeal. Hospital patients, already grappling with health issues, are reportedly being abducted by Azeri forces, adding another layer of horror to the dire circumstances they find themselves in.

The plight of Armenian Christians in Nagorno-Karabakh is a harrowing reminder of the devastating consequences that conflict and persecution can inflict on innocent lives. As this community remains cut off from the world, their urgent needs for sustenance, medical care, and safety call for immediate attention and action from the global community.
