Bishop Mari

A famous Christian preacher and Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was the victim of a violent attack during a church service in Sydney’s western suburbs on Monday, April 15, 2024.

The incident occurred at The Good Shepherd Church, where Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was delivering a sermon that was being live-streamed to the congregation. Suddenly, a man approached the elderly bishop and repeatedly stabbed him, leaving him with multiple serious injuries.

Chaos and Heroism Amid the Attack:

Eyewitnesses reported that the attack was captured on the church’s livestream, which was immediately cut off as the violence unfolded. In the chaos that ensued, four other members of the congregation also sustained stab wounds as they tried to intervene and rescue the bishop. “It was absolute pandemonium,” said one congregant. “One minute, the bishop was preaching; the next, this man just lunged at him with a weapon. We all rushed to help but ended up getting caught in the crossfire.”

The injured victims, including a man in his 50s with multiple lacerations, were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.

Suspect Barricaded Inside Church:

According to reports, the suspect barricaded himself inside the church after the attack, with members of the congregation preventing him from leaving the premises. Police and emergency services quickly arrived on the scene and are working to resolve the situation.

This shocking incident comes just two days after a separate mass stabbing attack at the Bondi Junction Westfield mall in Sydney, where six people were killed. The back-to-back acts of violence understandably shake the community.

Prayers and Support for the Victims:

Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel and the other injured congregants are in the thoughts and prayers of the local community and religious leaders. The Good Shepherd Church has expressed deep concern for the victims and cooperates fully with the ongoing police investigation.

“This is a truly devastating and senseless act of violence,” said the church’s senior pastor.

“Our focus now is on supporting the victims and their families and working with the authorities to ensure justice is served.”

As the investigation continues, the Sydney community is left grappling with the trauma of this shocking attack and the ongoing need to address the underlying issues that lead to such tragic incidents.
