On June 29, 2024, another heartbreaking incident unfolded in Pakistan as 17-year-old Naila, aka Nina, was abducted from her home. Her father, Sadiq Masih, has reached out to the Organization ECSPE for legal assistance in a desperate attempt to bring his daughter home safely.

Naila’s abduction is part of a disturbing pattern affecting Christians in Pakistan, particularly young Christian and Hindu women and girls. These vulnerable individuals are frequently targeted for abduction, forced conversion to Islam, and coerced marriages to much older Muslim men.

Family Pleads for Justice:

According to Parents, Naila was taken by a Muslim man named Naseer, accompanied by four other men. The family promptly reported the incident to the police, who registered an FIR (First Information Report) on June 30, 2024, under the number 1509/24.

Naseer and his associates are reportedly part of a gypsy group known for engaging in criminal activities, including theft and human trafficking. These groups are said to operate in both India and Pakistan, often selling abducted children and women into begging rings or forcing girls into prostitution.

Ongoing Challenges Faced By Christians:

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Christians in Pakistan. Despite international pressure and condemnation, the Pakistani government has failed to address the issue of forced conversions and marriages adequately. The United Nations has repeatedly expressed alarm at the lack of protection for minority girls, urging Pakistani authorities to enforce existing legal protections and bring perpetrators to justice.

The case of Naila, aka Nina, is an absolute reminder of the urgent need for action. Law enforcement agencies must act swiftly and decisively to rescue Naila, and hold her abductors accountable. Moreover, the Pakistani government must implement and enforce stronger laws to protect religious minorities, particularly vulnerable young women and girls, from such heinous crimes.

As we await updates on Naila’s case, the international community must continue to shine a light on these human rights violations and pressure the Pakistani government to take meaningful action.
